Pittsburgh Penguins fans got a scare in last nights game against the Boston Bruins as Marian Hossa was injured early in the second period after a knee on knee hit with a Boston player.

He joins Sidney Crosby and Gary Roberts on the Pens injured reserve.

He is expected to only miss a week however which is good news for a team which gave up its future for Hossa for a chance at the present.

Pittsburgh lost the game 5-1.

What a Difference a Day Makes

With all the recent trade talk surrounding Alex Tanguay most thought he would not play another shift for the Calgary Flames after Tuesday.  Well not only is that wrong, but he got a promotion.  At practice Tanguay was on the Flames top line with Jarome Iginla and Daymond Langkow.

Mike Keenan removed Kristian Huselius from the top line after his hot play had cooled in recent games.

The Flames decided to not make any moves at the deadline and feel they can contend with the rest of the West.  The only issue now is signing the many free agents that will be getting a raise in the offseason.

Darwin Head has become Canada’s newest millionaire after shooting 15 pucks from the far blue line into an open net during the Vancouver Canuck/Colorado Avalanche intermission this evening.  He also won 4 Chevrolet Malibu’s, one for him, one for each of his two friends, and one for a fan in the stands.

Bobby Orr must have given some good advice! Congrats!

Zamboni Hits Player?!?!

Well not quite.  During a recent Penguins game the Zamboni developed a fluid leak that made the ice surface look like a horror film.  I am sure it brought back memories of the Richard Zednik throat cut incident or a scene from the oscar winner There Will be Blood.

They had to scrape the ice and then use the other Zamboni to re-flood the ice , quite the time consuming process.

Luckily it wasn’t Hossa, Malkin or Crosby.

Paris Played Hockey?!?!

Surprisingly, Paris Hilton did play hockey during her High school years. Well I take the plural back as she only lasted half a year but she did play. She played as a 17 year old at Canterbury School in western Connecticut.  She seems to have not been a star, but tried hard none the less.  You can view the story here. and no there are no nude pictures of her or lindsay lohan.

Well it is one day after the NHL trade deadline and the balance of power remains on the West, although Pittsburgh has put themselves in a good spot this year in the East.  The Penguins may have given up their future however for this season, especially if Hossa opts to test the free-agent waters.

In the West Dallas and San Jose both bolstered their rosters with trade deadline pickups in Brad Richards and Brian Campbell, while Detroit and Colorado both added to their defense corps.  Colorado also made a splash with the signing of Peter Forsberg who will help the Avalanche get on the scoreboard more often.

The surprise of the deadline was the trade of Huet from Montreal for relatively nothing.  Price however backed up the trade by posting an impressive win last night.

Who will be the long term winners?  We won’t find out until the last games are played.
