Eastern Conference Playoff Preview

Well it is that time of year again, playoffs!  I will preview the East today, and tomorrow I will work on the West.

Montreal vs Boston:

If the regular season is any indication this should be a short series, but Montreal will be without their captain Saku Koivu and Michael Ryder.  The Habs went 8-0 vs Boston this year, and I believe will continue their dominance. Montreal in 5.

Pittsburgh vs Ottawa:

This is a match up of two teams heading in opposite directions.  The Penguins have been red hot, while the Sens have been cool and will be missing their captain Daniel Alfredsson.  I think Pittsburgh will win this series in six.

Washington vs Philadelphia:

This will be a high scoring affair that Washington should take with home ice.  Washington has been one of the hottest teams leading up to the playoffs and the Flyers have cooled off over the past month.  Look for Ovechkin to shine in his first post-season appearance. Caps take it in 6

New Jersey vs New York Rangers

Two division rivals square off and New York has dominated the season series, but I think Brodeur will keep the Devils in it with the home ice advantage.  Jagr has been hot lately, but I think New Jersey will take this in 6.

Tomorrow I will preview the West.

Rangers vs Islanders @ Yankee Stadium

Sources say the NHL will play its third outdoor game next season on New Years Day between the New York Rangers and New York Islanders.

This will likely be the last sporting event ever held at the historic Yankee Stadium and should be quite the setting for this game.

Previous games have been played in Edmonton vs the Montreal Canadiens and this year between Pittsburgh and Buffalo.

Hopefully I can get tickets!

Cujo Decides Today

As reported, today Curtis Joseph will make his decision on what team he will join.  It appears that the San Jose Sharks have dropped out of the running, while the New York Rangers have replaced them as the second most likely team, behind the Calgary Flames.  It is believed the Toronto Maple Leafs still have an outside shot as well.  The Rangers need a mentor in a sense for Henrik Lundqvist as their backup is a journeyman netminder in Stephen Valiquette.  Calgary would be the logical sense for his family as it is a wonderful city, but can Curtis deal with Iron Mike Keenan for another season?
